PSPB Outstanding Backlog on Track for Completion in 2026

In our ongoing efforts to provide updates on the backlog of retirement application processing, the Public Service Pensions Board (PSPB) is pleased to confirm that it is on track to resolve all outstanding matters by the end of 2026.

As previously reported, as of 31 March 2026, PSPB identified 166 pending retirement applications requiring additional review, including complex pension benefit calculations, account audits, and quality assurance checks. As at 25 September 2026, of the historical backlog, only 26 retirement cases remain outstanding, with some of these plan members receiving interim payments whilst their full pension is being validated and signed off.

Since 31 March 2026, new retirement applications continued to be received and processed while the PSPB also addressed the historical backlog. As of this reporting, a total of 32 new retirement applications are in progress along with the historical backlog, bringing the total applications in place at 58 pending retirements.  The PSPB expects to process these 58 overdue pension applications before the end of 2026.

While addressing the backlog throughout this year, there have been a number of enhancements in the way business is done at the PSPB.  One major improvement is that the PSPB worked with the Cayman Islands Government to improve contribution payment timing and since August, Civil Service pension contributions have been centralized using CIG’s new HR system.  This means contributions are paid to coincide with Government paydays, which will reduce reporting times and significantly shorten delays for retirement processing, removing up to a six weeks delay. Further, the PSPB team continues to deploy staffing resources to meet plan member expectations, and the Authority is also going to expand the use of systems that make it easier for employers to provide information and reduce the manual work involved in processing cases.

The PSPB team appreciates the patience from plan members while we have made such progress in addressing the backlog and we look forward to sharing the update on the completion of the remaining work by the end of the year.

If there are any plan members with questions about their retirement application or eligibility for interim payments, please contact the PSPB Member Services Department at (345) 945-8175.
