The Public Service Pensions Board (PSPB) is pleased to provide plan members and government stakeholders with an update on the significant progress made in reducing the backlog of retirement applications and improving pension processing services.
As of 31 March 2026, PSPB had identified 166 pending retirement applications requiring additional review, including complex pension benefit calculations, account audits, and quality assurance checks. Through targeted process improvements, enhanced workflows, and additional operational support, PSPB has reduced the backlog to 36 outstanding cases as of 31 August 2026.
"Retirement is one of the most important milestones in a member's life, and we recognize the importance of providing pension benefits as quickly and accurately as possible," said Jewel Evans Lindsey, Chief Executive Officer of the Public Service Pensions Board. "We are pleased with the significant reduction in outstanding retirement applications and grateful to our members for their patience as we worked through these complex cases. We remain focused on clearing the remaining backlog and continuing to improve the retirement experience for all members."
PSPB remains on track to resolve the remaining backlog by the end of the calendar year while maintaining service improvements that have accelerated processing times.
Interim Support for Retiring Members
To assist eligible members awaiting completion of their final pension calculation and retirement package, PSPB has introduced an interim payment program. Eligible retirees may receive an interim monthly payment while their application is being finalized. Once the final pension calculation is completed, interim payments will be reconciled against the member's approved pension entitlement.
